The Kashmir code | Protests August 2008

I am bored!
I am not even brushing my teeth that much in order to save the paste from running out! And worse I have named this post as 'The Kashmir code' based on the controversial 'The Da Vinci code' as i know this one is not going to please you one bit!

Its so controversial!
Today was supposed to be Lal-Chowk chalo! and as always I am still at home!! Two reasons here! One that I am not allowed to go out! and second! That a big curfew has been imposed.

The news channels are all dead! and no paper this morning as well!! Curfew!
I must thank the Almighty that the net is working and we have electricity too!! Which has given me the things i need to write today's (controversial) post!

This day will mark as the day when our struggle for azadi was officialy buried! I know its too early to say that but I am pretty much confident that 25 August 2008 will be yet another big day in the history of Kashmir! All the Geelanis, Mirwaizs, Shabir Shah's and Yasin malik's have been arrested! and Lal-Chowk is under so much security that one might think there is a war going on! I woudnt be surprised if an order of 'shoot at sight' has been given.

To mark the day when this small period of asking for azadi has come to an end; I sum it up with a small report on the 'Slogans', 'Calls' and 'Naaras' for freedom! and why it is better that we dont have azadi at all!! Why we just have to live with it!! Why we have to face the brutality of India!! Something which I wrote a few days back! and now i know why!

A few days back!!

" The slogans of azadi are being chanted. With lots of improvements to the slogans one can see a modern youth which has the courage to experiment with history! Some oldies remain, however, like the eternal 'Hum Kya chahtay' followed by the cry 'Zour se bolo'. But others, which are relatively very new, are quite hillarious. and Why shouldnt they be; after all we live in a "Great Indian LAughter show" era! Some of the humour must have spread! Version of 'Ragda Ragda' and ' Humari mandi tumhari mandi, hum jayengay Rawalpindi' were heard by many. We also, as it appears, to have crossed the ultiamte barriers of language by using English as a medium to get our message across! Many students from Womens College were seen ( and heard ) supporting the modern cry for freedom. For those who didnt guess it, it nothing more than " We want... " and then all the others join in to say "...freedom" But here I may gather some courage to oppose my brethren here! Freedom; Freedom is what .. India...
Ok Fine! Let us assume India grants us our wish and makes us free! Then it will upto our leaders to lead the young nation.. Ok Ok forget the political part. Lets move to the economic front! We have so many automobiles (actually marutis but anyway) we have to get the fuel! We have to import the feul rather!
No 'Bharat Petroleum' or 'Indian Oil' for that matter would help us! And thus we would have to import the costly fuel which would be much more costlier as there would be no such thing as a subsidy which the Indian government was earlier offering!
Yes, we would have lots of electricity! but considering the fact that our havit of using heaters and electricity guzzlers on a 'tsur laen' ( An illegal electric supply). I cant really imagine what will happen to us!
How many apples would we have to import to get just 1 ltr of petrol! I shudder to think folks! And what about our second big investment..
Where do we get the sheep from for our huge bellies!! The answer is yes we would have to import that as well!! and that means more apples! So guys.. I just have a small suggestion for all of you reading this!! Start growing apples!!! "

Reading this article once again I happily gulped down the last drop of my Kehwa!! Due to curfew the milk was unavailable! And now I am beginning to think that if the struggle for freedom had so many dark faces, what would freedom cost us!
I remember the history of independence of India!
So much blood shed! I hate to imagine Kashmir like that! Lets us all forget the big freedom! and lets enjoy our small freedom to go to Lal-Chowk! To have out tea with milk! To go to our jobs! Even if we have to bear the Indian army.. Lets do it!! Its a small life anyway! 60 years is not much if we think about the long term affects of 'Azadi'. and no one knows if you could really reach that number!! So lets enjoy our small bit of azadi!! and Lets do something to have a good amount of azadi in the here-after.. Ramazan is coming so I better not write more.. You must understand yourself.. And here I leave you to ponder, curse or even pray for me.. You have that freedom, dont you? . .

Alec Smart said: " We want freedom, We want freedom; see I know English " I replied: "Queremos la libertad, Queremos la libertad; see I know Spanish "

Indian Media is actually- Indian!

I am a Kashmiri, its my crime.....
Independence day!! Thats the time!
"I am a Muslim" so kill me!
Invade my land! My territory!
Alter my leadership and see!
But Still you call it democracy!
I deserve to be humiliated.
I deserve to be harassed.
I deserve to be mauled.
I deserve to be killed.
Put Boiling water!
Grill me Alive!
I am a Kashmiri!
I will surely survive!
I demand my rights
Is it my crime?
I demand my dignity
I demand my life,
I want to live,
but a living life.
Not a dead man's life.
It is my crime.
I can die struggling for freedom rather than giving it up and living.
Living a life which was never mine!

Sleeping so cosily in my bed in the late hours of the night I was suddenly woken up by some noise! Maybe it was a dream but no!! I have never seen one which has audio in it as well!! Cries of "Naarai Taqbeeer" and "Hum Kya Chahatay" were ringing in my ear! I jumped out of my bed and hurried to the top floor of my house! In the dark could be easily seen the procession which everyone was talking about! Without paying a second thought to it and the fact that it was so late I jumped back into my cosy little bed to sleep while the other folk of the same age group were shouting and awake!

Next day. without even a small feather of what had happened the night before I switched on the TV and tuned into TAKE1 channel!! Processions and protests were being shown live, CRPF vs Kashmiri Folk! Came to know that many people had died! Just then my mom came and said that no milk, no bread, absolutely nothing could be purchased! She said, "Mamoon, there is Kehwa for you to have for your Breakfast!" Was a little disappointed! Dont even remember when mom had prepared Kehwa for me before! Well maybe it was 'my' sacrifice for the bigger sake!

I changed the channel and tuned in to DD News! The Channel which I think strictly follows Indian politics! The other channels except for NDTV always look biased towards something or the other! Political support as usual! Came to know today was going to be a very important day! Yesterday ( August 11) a Hurriyat Leader, Sheikh Abdul Aziz had been shot mercilessly in the stomach! And yes he died! I would like you see a profile of SHEIKH ABDUL AZIZ here! Today was going to be a big big day after all!! The TAKE1 channel kept on showing the videos where the poor Kashmiri was being tortured and fired upon! But But DD NEWS!! It didnt even tell the people about the death of Sheikh Abdul Aziz! Just forget about mentioning about how many people had died! All they mentioned was that the government had opened the route from Jammu to Srinagar and the trucks were being sent in! Talk about India being a Democracy!

It is a very pathetic thing indeed! Lets compare the situation in Jammu as well in Kashmir! First things first! Lets rename this state from 'Jammu and Kashmir' to 'Jammu vs Kashmir'. Jammu saw protest as well.. But there the forces didnt fire on the people! Even though the violence level was still there! But here; the dogs which they consider us! Being Muslim doesnt help either! And you can see the dead bodies already! I never went out of my home! Being the only son I wasnt allowed! It could even have been me! I mean this is not America where protest actually means something! Where I could be a hero if join the protest! Well not in this stupid place where the CRPF people dont even let the ambulances pass!! Read a Doctor's story here!

People speak of Hitler don't they! A cruel guy who aimed his cruelty at the Jews only... I mean look at this present situation in Kashmir.. Lets compare! Hitler had communal hatred and so does our BJP leader, Mr. L.K Advani along with the Vishwa Hindu Parishad! Then the Jews of Germany were being killed and now the Muslims of Kashmir are being muredered! But now its in a modern way! And the funny thing is that the Indian Media just talks about the road and the Amarnath Issue!

Lets hear this story about Tauseef! A small boy aged 4 and a half!
While dispersing a procession, policemen barged into a house in Sopur and hit a utensil containing boiling water in the kitchen. The hot water sprinkled on Tauseef’s body and he suffered severe burn injuries. And the CRPF guy who did it will be honoured with the prestigious medals from the Indian Army on January 26; India's Republic Day!

India is celebrating 61 glorious years of independence on 15th August! 61 years of Unity amongst Diversity. An admirable trait considering the different languages, religions and regions that make Her. But yes lets not forget! Lets not include Kashmir there ever! OK we may include one! The one who is searched, troubled and harassed in other states! If you are a Kashmiri settled in Delhi or some other part of the country, I advise you to ask your boss for a leave and sit back at your home until this independence thing passes away! And to remind you it is India's Independence day!

And where the hell are the so called political parties of Kashmir! NC, PDP and Congress to name the popular ones!! Disapperared!

I remember the days when the municipality started to kill the street dogs! The killing had not even started when a particular Maneka Gandhi jumped in to oppose the killing of those who had life!! I am desperate! We are all dogs here! Thats why the human rights people are not showing up! We need an ardent animal rights activist and a scholar to prove that we are animals!! Maybe Maneka Gandhi can save us!

The Breeds of Kashmir and Blood Supply vs. Demand

Hi People! My monitor is not working so unfortunately i couldnt find the time to come online and blog! But to really fill in this void, here is a superb article written by one of my cousins on facebook!!

The Breeds of Kashmir and Blood Supply vs. Demand
Hamza Yaswi

500 years ago a breed of kashmiris was born who believed in sunni kashmir. With the help of Mughals they ousted the last Kashmiri king Yusuf Shah Chak and Kashmir became a part of the Indian subcontinent. After that, Kashmir continued to suffer under the autocratic rule of the Mughals, Afghans, Skihs and Dogras. The rulers were brutal and would consider Kashmiris their personal property and even impose 70% taxes.

In the late 1940’s kashmiris saw a ray of hope. Little did they know it was just a beginning to their endless suffering. Sufferings that would defy all the laws of human rights and freedom. This decade also gave birth to a new breed of traitors who sold and re-sold Kashmir for their own personal gains (this breed still exists by the names of Abdullas, Muftis and Tulips). Those land merchants, for their own personal gain, changed the nation of Kashmir for ever. They used every gimmick to gain popularity but were unable to kill the common kashmiri sentiment of Azadi. They tried to bribe kashmiris by making bridges, schools, and roads but to their disappointment Kashmiris were not for sale. All they wanted was freedom.

History repeated itself in ’04 when a chef who worked for the Nehru family became the chief minister of J&K. The chief ( aka Nab’e Tulip) who specialized in making rogan josh thought he would flood the state with money and thus kill the sentiments of Azadi. In an effort to do so he made the tulip garden an icon of peace in Kashmir. He also played an instrumental role in opening the Sufism department in Kashmir University whose main objective was to dig centuries deep and find a connection between Kashmir and Hinduvita. It seemed that he was getting close to success and people started going to concerts and visiting tulip gardens. The chef who had given up his white pheran (pooch’e) and started wearing karakuli though that money and good roads will buy us while ignoring the atrocities his Rs. 1,500/ month men were doing on the people. To further ‘indianize’ Kashmir, he continued the trend of getting all the higher government officers from India. Little did he know that a volcano was about to erupt that would destroy his political career for ever and maybe force him to wear the white pheran again.

Then beginning of this century saw the sentiments of azadi dying and yet again a new breed of kashmiris was born. This time they were educated and talked in terms of economy. These people were all for India and the reason was the economic growth in India. Little do they know about GPD but kept on talking about it. For them the rising value of the rupee was the growth of a country. For them the huge outsourcing presence in India was an icon of development. Little did these fools understand that only around 11 developed cities out of 351 cities does not mean development. Neither could they understand that more than 30% of its population is below poverty line. But they still kept talking about GDP.

Talking about outsourcing, they probably don’t even know that all the major international outsourcing players in India are renting for their office space because they have no long term plans and that is the reason the real estate industry is booming. Companies like HP, IBM and Microsoft have starting moving to the Middle east and Central Asia because they can find the same skill sets at cheaper price and can find innovation which unfortunately is not in the Indian culture. The company I work for just laid off 1,500 workers in India and opened up a site in Kazakistan. Once they are gone those developing cities will be like Detroit, empty but a lot of real estate available. Lets take the example of HP. HP in South America generates twice as much as double the workers in India do. The reason is because South Americans took the innovative challenge to do R&D and are geographically close to the North Americas, while on the other side most of the outsourced business in India is done following a script. However, the last couple of months have given a big slap on the faces of these GDP lovers. Seems they have started realizing that money can’t buy Kashmir. They have now stated talking about self sufficiency and industrialization in Kashmir, something that I welcome. It took the death of many innocent people for them to realize Kashmir can’t be bought for money.

Coming back to politics, it seems that kashmiri blood is getting cheaper day-by-day. Earlier they used to kill 2-3 Kashmir when we protested. Now, it’s in two digit figure. During the Pathribal encounter in March 2000, five innocent protesters were killed who were demanding a probe into the encounter. Leave alone the people who were actually killed in the encounter. So what has made the Kashmiri blood so cheap? Is it because it is available in abundance and the supply is greater than the demand?

Blood can never be cheap. It’s the boldness of the Indian government to kill with the support of the local traitors and the silence of the world community. When will this end? Are the recent protests a final revolution of Kashmir which will break the chains of occupation or is it just another revolution like the 1860s, 1931 and 1990. This could be beginning of the end. The end of mass genocide, the end of human rights violations, and the beginning of the much awaited freedom. In an era of open borders, free trade and world unity, Kashmir is being forced to be confined and depended on a 1.5 mile tunnel. A peaceful march towards opening the border and establishing relations with other countries has costed 21 young Kashmiri lives. This all happened while my fella Kashmiris were busy shopping for Jacuzzis and while the world was enjoying the Olympics.

The saga continues...
